Sergeant Bruce Penuel
Sergeant Bruce Penuel has been with the department since November,
1978 and was promoted to Sergeant in 1990. He is a graduate of Pitman
High School in Pitman, New Jersey and Ursinus College where he received
a B.A. in Political Science.
Sergeant Penuel has taken graduate studies in Criminal Justice
at West Chester State University, and completed the Municipal Police
Training course as presented by the Pennsylvania State Police Southeastern
Training Academy. He is a graduate of the Penn State Police Supervisors
In-Service Training (POSIT) and the Police Executive Development
Institute (POLEX).
Sergeant Penuel is also certified as a First Responder by the Pennsylvania
Department of Health and as a Firefighter I by the Pennsylvania
Fire Service Professional Qualifications Board.
Sergeant Pennuel's entire career has been dedicated to public safety.
Prior to joining the Collegeville Police Department, he was employed
by:
- Montgomery County Emergency Dispatch Services
- Boyertown Emergency Communications Center
- Uwchlan Police Department
- Valley Forge State Park Police
- Perkiomen Township Police Department
Over the years, he has performed patrol, administrative and criminal
investigation duties, working closely with other agencies to solve
major crimes in the borough.
In 2001, he received a valor award from the Shomrim of Philadelphia
and the Delaware Valley stemming from an incident where he assisted
with the apprehension of a subject who had shot and wounded his
wife and then shot at Police Officers.
Sergeant Penuel continues to participate in several Community Policing
programs and enjoys working with the staff and students of the Perkiomen
Valley School District
Off duty, he serves with the Collegeville Fire Company (since 1970)
and has held at times the positions of Assistant Fire Chief and
Financial Secretary. He assists with the Public Fire Education program.
He has also served as a volunteer with the Pitman Ambulance Corps,
the Pitman Fire Department, and the Trappe Fire Company Ambulance
