A Note from our Mayor

Dear Collegeville Residents,

As we enter into another vibrant season in our beloved community, I want to take a moment to reflect on what makes Collegeville such a great place to come home to. It’s not just our beautiful town, thriving businesses, or the educational opportunities available; the spirit of community binds us together. Each one of you plays a crucial role in making Collegeville a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone. To me, this is critically important as our nation shows increasing evidence of becoming more and more polarized.  A spirit of “Us versus Them” and “Worthy versus Unworthy” has no place here.

EMBRACE COMMUNITY

Community is at the heart of Collegeville. It’s essential that we celebrate the diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of our residents. Here are a few ways we can further affirm our sense of community:

1. **Participate in Local Events: ** join IN upcoming community gatherings, holiday celebrations, or neighborhood meetings. These events are perfect opportunities to connect with your neighbors and foster lasting relationships.

2. **Support Local Initiatives: ** Volunteer for local nonprofits or initiatives that are working to improve our borough.  A little bit of time can have a profound impact on our community’s wellbeing.

3. **Create Safe Spaces: ** let’s work to create inclusive environments where everyone feels welcome. No one should feel excluded or shunned because of their race, gender, sexuality, religion, or physical or cognitive abilities. Share your ideas and experiences to make Collegeville a safe haven for all.

**Choosing Kindness**

In our day-to-day lives, choosing kindness can create a ripple effect that transforms our community. A simple smile or a helping hand can brighten someone’s day. Here are some suggestions to spread kindness in our town:

1. **Practice Empathy: ** always strive to understand others’ viewpoints. This creates a culture of respect and patience.

2. **Acts of Kindness:** Small gestures, like picking up litter in our parks or offering assistance to someone in need, can inspire others to do the same.

3. **Celebrate Achievements: ** take the time to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of your neighbors—whether big or small. Recognition fosters a supportive environment.

**Using Our Individual Agency**

While we work together as a community, it’s important to remember the power of individual agency. Each of us can effect change. Here’s how you can make a difference:

1. **Speak Up: ** Voice your ideas or concerns about our borough’s development by attending town hall meetings or contacting local representatives. Your opinions matter.

2. **Be Informed: ** Engage with local news and updates regarding Collegeville. Being informed allows you to contribute more effectively.

3. **Lead by Example: ** Demonstrate values such as honesty, responsibility, and integrity in your daily actions. When others see you embody these principles, they are more likely to follow suit.

Together, we can continue to evolve Collegeville into a place that we are proud to call home. By affirming our sense of community, practicing kindness, and using our individual agency, we can create a supportive, dynamic, and thriving environment for all residents.

Let’s build a bright future together. Thank you for all you do to make Collegeville a wonderful place to live!

Wholeheartedly,

Rev. Dr. Aidsand “Ace” Wright-Riggins
