Borough Human Relations Committee application deadline June 10, 2021
Individuals Needed to Serve on the Borough’s Human Relations Commission
Last year the Council passed an ordinance to create a five-member Human Relations Commission. The ordinance acts as an affirmation from the Council that we are committed to a policy of non-discrimination in the Borough of Collegeville in all matters involving fair employment practices, housing and commercial property, and accommodations; and that we will work to enforce that policy.
The Human Relations Commission reviews complaints of discrimination in these areas and attempts to get the aggrieved parties to the table to work out differences. The Commission also mediates where necessary. The state of PA provides free training to the Commission members.
The Council is looking for residents or business owners who are passionate and knowledgeable about issues of discrimination and conflict resolution, and who are willing to act as a proactive entity in order to make equity, inclusion, diversity and non-discrimination a hallmark of our borough. These are volunteer positions, with little budget and no compensation. No members can hold office in any political party. Residents will be appointed by the Council to staggered three-year terms.
You can find a copy of the ordinance creating the Commission here: https://www.collegeville-pa.gov/wp-content/uploads/2020/06/Ord.-601-Human-Relations-Commission-Ordinance.pdf
Interested individuals should send a letter of interest and/or resume to Borough Manager Tamara Twardowski (TTwardowski@borough.collegeville-pa.gov)
Borough council meets the 1st Wednesday of each month.
