The approximately three-acre park is appropriate for children of all ages. The park has of a children’s playground with two play systems and a separate swing set for toddlers.  It also has a full size paved basketball court, a roller hockey court and a baseball field with newly renovated dugouts. The basketball and roller hockey courts are lighted in season.  The park has a pavilion picnic area.

Concerts in the Park

During the summer months the Borough of Collegeville hosts a concert program at the Community Park. The concerts are a great place to get together with friends and neighbors and relax with the kids. The concerts include a variety of music from string band, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, Caribbean and more.

Bring a blanket or some lawn chairs, or just sit on the ball field bleachers.  During the concert, the playground is available for kids and there are food trucks run by the Collegeville Rotary and Rita’s Water Ice. Come and join the fun!

The concert schedule is published  published on the Bulletin Board and in our newsletters.

Hunsberger Woods

Hunsberger Woods

Hunsberger Woods is a 27-acre natural area located on East Ninth Avenue, encompassing ponds, creeks, and wooded and meadow habitats. It is a haven for birds and other wildlife, and features maintained trails for walking, running, and other non-motorized recreation. The natural area was created when Russell and Jeannette Hunsberger sold their property jointly to the Borough and Ursinus College. The Hunsberger family lived on the property from 1938 until 1996. The Borough, with support from Montgomery County Open Space (“Growing Greener”) Funds and Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, bought the undeveloped 27-acre parcel that now encompasses the protected Hunsberger Woods natural area. The college purchased the Hunsberger house and adjacent buildings and fields.

The Borough of Collegeville has made improvements to the site, including the addition of park benches and parking for cars and bicycles at the Ninth Avenue and the Rt. 29 entrances. The Borough and Ursinus have a long history of collaborating to care for the lands and waters at Hunsberger Woods. Ursinus Environmental Studies faculty and students have worked closely with the Borough over the past 16 years to raise funds and conduct restoration and stewardship activities in the natural area, including planting more than 600 trees characteristic of southeastern Pennsylvania forests (including oak, maple, birch, hickory, dogwood, poplar, and white pine, among others). As well, in the fall of 2018, Susan Hunsberger Stevenson, daughter of Russell and Jeannette Hunsberger, was honored with the planting of a memorial tree (a red oak). The memorial was made possible by Susan’s classmates from the Collegeville-Trappe High School class of 1948, the Borough, and the Ursinus Environmental Studies Department.

The Borough enjoys its collaboration with Ursinus on the stewardship of Hunsberger Woods, as well as the involvement of other past partners, including the Perkiomen Watershed ConservancyPennsylvania Horticultural Society, and the statewide Plant One Million reforestation program.

Perkiomen Trail

Perkiomen Trail

The Perkiomen Trail is a 19-mile multi-use public trail for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, cross-country skiers, and equestrians. The Trail was developed and is maintained by the Montgomery County Department of Parks and links the county’s parks that are strung along the Perkiomen Creek.

The Trail passes through the Borough from the south side near Rt. 29 and Park Avenue to the north side near Rt. 29 and Ninth Avenue. In between it passes behind the two shopping centers of the Borough’s merchant district, crosses Main Street at Third Avenue and straddles the wooded ridge behind the Ursinus College campus.

As it passes through the Borough the Trail becomes another link in the Borough’s network of sidewalks. The 10-foot wide Trail is mostly paved but some portions are cinder-covered. Still the surface is hard and appropriate for bikes, strollers and wagons as well as joggers and walkers.

Complete information about the trail is available at the Perkiomen Trail web site.

The site includes a baseball and a soccer field, a play system, trails, and a pavilion in a wooded stream area.
