The Dedication of Collegeville Borough’s Welakamike Creekside Park will be Saturday, June 1
Collegeville Borough and the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy are hosting a dedication and celebration of our new creekside park at noon on Saturday, June 1. Everyone is invited to attend. The dedication will include the formal naming of the park in the language of the Delaware Tribe of Indians, which in Lenape is “Welakamike,” or “pretty place.”
The Creekside park was created through the partnership of the Borough and the Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, and funded through our federal, state, and county officials. We also received support from Ursinus College, the Perkiomen Valley School District, our Collegeville Fire Company, and the Delaware Tribe of Indians: the original, indigenous inhabitants of this land.
June 1 is also the Perkiomen Watershed’s Annual Perkiomen Creek Sojourn. Roughly 190 canoe and kayakers will be debarking at the boat launch to eat lunch at Collegeville’s Creekside Park during the time of the Dedication and follow up activities.
The dedication will include short remarks from our Mayor and our elected officials and dignitaries, including a representative of the Delaware Tribe of Indians.
